Microbial
From the depths of the deepest oceans to the ecosystem of our own bodies, microorganisms are the unmatched rulers of our planet.
Archaea (bacteria-like microbes) are one of the major domains of life on Earth and have been found in many extreme environments, including hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor. These microbes comprise up to half the mass of life in the oceans. Even more surprising, microorganisms actually make up the majority of our human bodies. There are about 10 times as many microbial cells in the human body as there are human cells.
Called our human microbiome, these microorganisms call the shots. From affecting our mood and behavior to altering our weight and physiology, these tiny inhabitants are the conductors of everyday life.
As scientists and researchers discover more fascinating data, the true effects of our environment and food consumption on our bodies are being realized.
